Smart companies do dorky things like steps challenges to encourage team bonding. They care about this silly thing called “culture.” Why? Because humans have 86 billion neurons in their brains, and we’re subtle, organic beings. Connecting with each other is important. How important?
The mortality impact of being socially disconnected is similar to that caused by smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day.
This according to a new report from the US Surgeon General. Not to be overly dramatic, but companies die too if their employees don’t connect with each other. The coffee machine conversations and banter are not unnecessary expense line items — they’re critical investments.
